MS Ride Report

Hey all,

The MS Ride, AKA the Best Dam Bike Tour, is over. It gives the Tour de Fort a run for it's money, that's for sure - I don't remember the last time I walked so many hills. Check out the ride report at my personal page.

Tour de Fort

Calling all Betties ..... since we haven't gotten us all together for one single ride yet this summer I think it's time to talk about the infamous Tour de Fort.

http://www.jcbc.info/Tour%20de%20Fort.html

Since the biggest hills are in the first 20 miles of the route I'm sure there are some of you that would be up for the whole 62 miles. (There are shorter options also).

Come on you know you want to do it !!!!! Don't forget the yummy chicken after the ride.

Deena's "RAG-Brag"

RAGBRAI (Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa)

What a blast! I rode Day 2 from Spencer to Humbolt. It was 77 miles, 1494 feet of climb, 90 degrees and a bit windy. My sister dropped me off at the start in the morning. Jim and kids waited for me at the second-last town, 7 miles from the end. Lizzie, my 9 year old, rode the last 7 miles with me through rolling hills, into the wind, with knobby little mountain bike tires - she's a trooper.

I didn't see Lance (my oldest daughter joked that he was probably out there in a white t-shirt on a hybrid schwinn trying to be anonymous), but I met so many great people. I met a girl in one of the first towns in the port-a-potty line. A girl she was riding with suggested the cornfields - much cleaner and no line. One guy must have noticed me wilting during a longer stretch near the end, because he stayed and chatted about his clock repair business until we got close to town. I met another man who had surgery for a torn ACL 8 weeks before the ride. He got his doc's ok to ride half the route each day - 35 miles - in a full knee brace!

The pass-through towns were great. They ranged in population from 100-700 residents, but put out hospitality times ten! They had bike racks down the center of town and food at every turn. A farmer set up a giant slip and slide that riders were stopping for- it was hilarious! This is a ride to remember!

A Piece of the Pie

A pie ride? It was the first time for Sue, Dar and I to attempt this kind of ride. After all....you normally get a pasta dinner or chicken dinner--but a pie??? We had to check this out, so we heaed to Janesville bright and early for the 7th annual Rotary pie ride. Started out flat, nice roads etc, as it went on there were a few small hills and 2 small rest stops.

After 30+ miles in the sun and 85 degree heat we crossed the finish line, were given mardi gras beads and then got to choose between a cherry or apple pie. Was it worth it? We thought so.

Iron Girl

Hey guys,
I'm Kat, a recent addition to the Betties! I just moved back to Milwaukee after traveling and working for a few months in South America (where I lost all the fitness I had last fall when I ran my first marathon). I haven't been a HUGE biker before now...more like the girlfriend of a bike geek...but this summer it seems to be all I want to do. Anyway, I was reading Rochelle's post about the Iron girl events and got really excited to try something like that.

I would like to do some more consistent weekend rides like Saturday or Sunday mornings (on the North Shore if possible, but I'm open to other suggestions). Maybe we could set up a ride that meets at the same place and time one day on the weekend and just plan to do a 25-35 mile ride every each week on that day. Thoughts??

Maybe there is something like that already set up with the Betties and I just don't know because I'm new. If so, let me know!
