Spring Has Sprung The Betties!!

Well, almost. The snow, cold and generally sad weather lately has put us all into hibernation I think. I know we've all been connecting via email, but I thought I'd inaugurate the Betties Blog with the first sign of spring. Went on a great little ride yesterday with some Mad FORCs ... the Madison women's mountain biking group. It was downright balmy. This "first rite of spring" inspired our Mad FORCs president, Renee Callaway to post a wonderful dedication to that first special ride of the season....here it is....I hope it inspires everyone to strap on those shoes, put on the long fingered gloves and tights, and get out on the road!

An Ode to the Spring Ride
Nothing can quite be compared with the spring ride
Except for perhaps the fall ride but alas I digress
The long dark days are slowly fading away
Time is now on your side as week night rides are no longer done in the dark
The sun is out to warm the long covered skin
But winter is not far from our minds
Piles of snow remind you of winter days past
A frozen lake glistens in the sun
Yet the day calls for shorts and you leave your arm warmers in the jersey pocket
The air warms your skin and you can't help but think of the hot days to come
But snow drifts linger in the shade to keep you cool as you pass by
What could be more perfect
What could be more perfect
Tires hum on the pavement
Lingering salt on the road glistens like glass
Dirt and debris line the road edges
But on a day like this it doesn't matter
Voices of riding companions flow through the air
Everyone excited to be back on the bike
Some for the first time, others off the trainers or out of the gym
It's hard not to love cycling on a day such as this

Isn't that perfect???

See all you ladies soon, if not on the road in the next month or so, remember we're meeting up for the Arts Ride in early June...I'll send a reminder to sign up!

Take care ladies, remember, rubber side down, corners of that smile way up! ;-)
